Statement

The work submitted here in portfolio is a small selection I have picked out to express my strengths in Graphic Design. Compiled mostly of sketch work and photo manipulations. I believe having a range of different art styles allows me to develop skills in all areas of the profession and express myself through the development and eventually the final outcome when presented. As you will see, my illustrations  have a focus on conceptual artwork, as this is the art style that inspires me and it’s because of conceptual artists such as Sam Didier and Adrian Smith that I have adopted the style. My illustrations are also fantasy themed, and for me this is the best area to illustrate within. This is because it allows me to express myself the best  due to the fact it’s what you imagine, not a set character or scenario. With my digital creations, I try to keep a theme in mind for a design, such as time, or a contrast of darkness and light. This helps me to focus on a specific aspect of the creation rather than trying to implement several ideas at once.

I am very focused on my work as I always strive to produce a quality outcome, and I believe this has helped me put forward a better standard of artwork. I have no problems working in a team environment or on my own, as working in a team allows you to swap ideas which will ultimately end up with a greater result. Everyone has a unique taste which they can develop and contribute to different areas of a developing outcome. I believe MMU is the best choice for me to develop my skills because of the quality this course offers those lucky enough to be accepted. This course offers everything I need to take my design skills to a new level, as I will be able to further develop my technical skills as well as gaining more knowledge of techniques which I can show in my own work. All of the skills I gain whilst on the course will make me a much better graphic designer and help me to express myself through my projects and ultimately a professional portfolio.
